Problems being addressed:
- Beauty Standards
We have been socialized in Western societies to value symmetrical breast as something that is natural and normal.
- Available Options
People with asymmetric breasts lack material support that accommodates for a variety of breasts differences. Mainstream options encourage women to stuff bra, buy inserts or seek surgery in order to be symmetrical or "normal".
- Lack of Research / Language
There is an overwhelming amount of research on how to improve surgical techniques for people who choose to have synthetic symmetry but no research on the importance of displaying symmetrical breast.or if breast asymmetry impacts our health. The negative language that doctors use to address people with these natural differences exemplifies the Sapir Whorf Hypothesis.
- No Community
The fact that there is much research on how to butter surgical producers shows us that there is a community of people who have naturally asymmetrical breast however, breast asymmetry can impact someone at anytime in their life. There are no blogs or online communities that address breast asymmetry as beautiful and natural non normative Identity.
